The Sunday Post 5/15/16

sunday post meme
A lot has happened in my life that left my blog unattended. I’ve resigned from my position as a merch manager at my bookstore, I’ve turned in my reward points for a Barnes and Noble gift card.

As far as my book blog goes: I’ve received a bunch of ARCs from publishers through both my bookstore job and my life as a book blogger. I’ve loaded my online cart with books I really want to own but just haven’t yet and I’ve officially given up on cleaning my apartment (non sequitur much?).the crown's gamethe outliers

I also got back on Instagram though I haven’t posted much. On Twitter I’ve been a busy bee, by both defending feminists from the online any swarms of woman-hating wasps (oh, interwebs, you so funny) and retweeting contests that offer books I’m DYING to read.

I’ve been stalking all the posts about assholes selling ARCs that they got from BEA (dudes, just be happy you got to go there. This girl can’t afford to yet…) and feeling sad for the authors and astounded that any book-lover would do something like that.

I decided that I’m going to try something new since my lazy ass won’t review books as regularly as necessarily; something that I’m quite excited about (#grammarfail) because it’ll keep me posting interesting thingy-ma-bob-ers: reviews of book series that I’ve read rather than planning on reviewing individual books that I never get around to. The problem is that I read faster than I can blog so my blog has been put on the back burner, even though it’s one of the things I love most.

I’ve hit another reading slump, where my time has been devoted to Hulu, where I fry my brain cells with way too much TV. It’s to the point where I’m worried my brain won’t be able to handle reading. Which me luck, peeps, that I’ll be once again become my true self and have my head in a book and this blog.

I haven’t been following up with my reading challenges, which I believe may be part of the reason why I haven’t been reading. I was so excited to participate but then work got in the way and I totes forgot that’s what I was doing.

As for this coming week, I’m hoping to review one or two books I’ve received from publishers, starting with The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy and The League of Regrettable Superheroes by Quirk Books, one of my favorite publishers of all things awkward and awesome.

I also have to get my ass in gear and keep up with all my other social media for this blog (Tumblr, Twitter, this freaking blog, Instagram, Facebook, Google + and all that jazz) because I absolutely LOVE social media and I’ve been sad that I’ve been away for this long. (To the right and the bottom of this post  you’ll find the buttons to follow my lovely self so check them and in case they’re more your thing than this.)

Keep checking back for more memes, Sunday Posts’, book hauls, and reviews! Follow me on any of the social media thingies that you are glued to, much like I am. I’m considering doing another Booktube post on my new channel (links to follow if I do act on that) so I shall keep you posted on those developments. While I love recording my reading via video, the editing process is beyond me and incredibly frustrating so I’ll probs be sticking with my written blog for the most part.

Whelp, be sure to follow me on some form of social media to keep up with the books I’m reading (like reading my picture journal on Instagram). Or, you could Tumbl(r) into my other blog (get it, GET IT I’M SO FUNNY GET IT). I’m also on Twitter if none of these be your thang as well as Facebook and YouTube (but I’m not actively updating it). Oh, also, Pinterest, the Destroyer of My Lunch Breaks.

Peace, homies, and super-duper happy reading to you!

Barnes and Noble Black Friday finds

So these last two weeks were crazy. I got a job offer; had it taken away; interviewed at another and didn’t get it that job; instead they gave me an interview for a higher position. I actually got the job as a manager for the store and I’m crazy excited.

Every time I go to Barnes and Noble, without fail, I give unsolicited recommendations to people in the teen section. I can’t help it. And now IT’S MY JOB. Seriously, I get paid to do what I’ve been doing all along. This is so exciting, you don’t even realize. Actually, you’re probs reading this blog because you do get it.

I like books. Have I mentioned? And I like new books. Books that people haven’t got their grimy hands all over after peeing and not washing up. You know, BOOKS THAT ARE MINE ALL MINE NOT KIDDING BACK AWAY SLOWLY WITH YOUR HANDS UP

This is going to be an amazing experience and I hope this will one day get me a job in corporate. That’s le goal but first I need to get a certificate in marketing: -e-business and e-commerce.  This sh*t is going down, you guys. I have an amazing opportunity ahead of me and I’m getting my dream job. At first my dream job was to be a librarian, and then I realized that I couldn’t live off of that so now I shall work my way up through the bookstore.

As for last week: it was rather quiet. I posted once about my “Bookish Pet Peeves” because I know I’m not the only one who can’t stand people interrupting my reading to ask me what I’m reading. It’s like, okay… You can see what I’m reading, bro, just use your eyes.

After bragging about reading a series each month and knowing that I’m probs going to fail b/c of Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments being so freaking long, I set my sites on an additional challenge: 2016 New Releases. I read books that just came out. Piece of cake. If I can’t do the other challenges, at least I can do this one; and #RockmyTBR is doable as well, so I should really be posting updates!

Stalk me on the interwebs, you have my permission.

My 2016 Resolutions–Bookish and Otherwise

By posting these resolutions I’m holding myself responsible to complete them regularly.

    1. I need to walk 5 days a week
  2. Yoga 2x a week, the length doesn’t matter
  3. A month-long elimination diet to help my migraines
    1. Maybe I’ll revisit being Vegan again. It worked out pretty well for me last time.

Bookish/Writing Resolutions

  1. I will read all 2015 review books
  2. Meet Goodreads challenge
    1. Read my books on reading
  3. Journal at least 5 out of 7 of the days of the week, like I did when I was younger
  4. I will regularly upload stories to OWW SFF so I can keep getting writing feedback

Blogging Resolutions

  1. I will blog/booktube regularly, *“regularly” to be determined at a later date*
  2. At least every other book I read I will review on my blog(s)

Spiritual stuff and all that jazz

  1. On that note, I will actually learn the Tarot
  2. I will meditate at least once a week
    1. I will burn candles to my hearts’ desire, picking the color depending on my mood

  4. I will go out of my way to think positively, especially when something happens that brings me down

Randomness

  1. Somehow, somewhere, I will meet this years monies goal. I can do this. I CAN DO THIS.
  2. I will move out. I don’t care where, I will just get my own place, however that pans out >.<

ZOMG It’s 2016! You get to vote on the books I’ve read :D

I was going to start out by saying, “How did this happen so fast??” but I actually saw this coming. 2015 felt like such a freakin’ long year, I couldn’t wait for it to be over and for the new year to start. I needed a blank slate, on many levels. After a while things start to pile up, like my TBR pile, for instance. And, on top of that, for some reason my 2015 Goodreads challenge didn’t update my books. It said I read 50/75 books for months. It quite sad, really, I wanted to watch my count go higher and higher.

This year my Goodreads challenge is still to read 75 books in the year 2016. I know, it’s not much, especially compared to other Book bloggers/tubers, but this woman can’t read any more than that with a full-time job! Maybe one day, but for now I need to be slow and steady.

As of early this morning I started reading Dream Strider and I’m excited to have it be my first book of 2016! The plan was to read the whole thing today but I’ve been blogging and watching the New Years Parade with the family so that probs ain’t going to happen today.

I want this year to be a huge reading year. Well, I want every year to be a heavy-reading year but this year especially, as I get used to a new job and (hopefully) a new apartment.

You’ve seen the challenges I’ll be participating in this year: A Series a Month, Rock my TBR, and one or two others that I’m still trying to decide among. They promise to be great fun and keep my reading growing. I’m especially excited for A Series a Month because there are SO many series I’ve started and haven’t finished, and ones that I don’t own the full set of (Barnes and Noble, here I come!). I took pictures of the series I’m considering, though it’s quite likely some of those will change.

Something I’m very excited about: I implemented a new plugin for you guys. You get to rate the book that I review when you’ve read it. Look above ^ I want to hear what you thought of the books that I’ve read!

Happy New Year of Reading, you all!

A Series a Month–2016 Reading Challenge

a series a monthI need something to keep me reading, even during a reading slump. Reading is incredibly important to me and I have reading “withdraws” when I go a day or two without books. To inspire me to read as often as I can, I’ve decided to partake 😉 in several challenges, one of them being

**Scroll down to see the photos of the books I plan on reading.**

Here’s the lowdown.   I’m super excited to participate in “A Series a Month” that Love at First Page created. It’s just how it sounds, the rules are as follows:

  • READING CHALLENGE DETAILS:
    • The goal is to read one series every month in 2016.
    • It must be at least two full length books (one book + one novella does not count).
    • The series itself does not have to be completed in 2016, but you should read all published books in the series.
    • The books in your chosen series must be read within the same month (give or take a couple of days only). Reading one series over the course of six months does not count!
    • Re-reads count.
    • The books can be in any format and in any genre, and companion series do count.
    • Use the hashtag #ASeriesAMonth when posting your reviews/updates on social media.

*I’m going to add something that is going to make things a lot easier for me. I’m tailoring it to my needs and in order to get through all of these I’m going to just read the books after the ones I’ve read previously. Is that cheating? I hope not because that’s how I’m going to do it. For instance, I don’t want to re-read any of the Throne of Glass because I wasn’t a huge fan. However, I do own the last books that’s been published and haven’t read it. I tried to, I didn’t, and it’s going to be part of the series that I’m going to read.

I’m going to make a schedule of the books. I don’t have a full-time job right now but I’m job hunting so it’ll happen one of these days! And when that day comes I probs won’t have much time to read while I’m being trained so right now, before I start my new job, I’m going to read a long ass series; probs going to be the City of Bones series by Cassandra Clare. Every Booktuber super love her books so I’m probs going to start with hers. Not gonna lie, it’s not the one I’m most excited about but I’m going to tackle it anyway since everyone seems to love it ^_^
